At the office of Envue Optometry, we provide comprehensive eye examinations, using state-of-the-art technology and methods. We strive to diagnose conditions that can compromise your vision early in their onset, when they are often easiest to manage and treat. A condition known as glaucoma is sometimes called the “silent thief of sight.” Glaucoma earned this reputation as the earliest stages of this condition typically go unnoticed. For this reason, routinely scheduled, comprehensive eye exams are essential for adults over 40 years of age.
Glaucoma refers to a group of conditions, which cause damage to the optic nerve. The most common form of glaucoma is open-angle glaucoma, and the prevalence of this condition increases with age. Often, open-angle glaucoma does not present with any symptoms or vision loss until the condition has progressed. If you have open-angle glaucoma, you may notice a gradual loss of peripheral vision, making it difficult to see objects on the sides and corners of your visual field. Studies show that the pressure within your eye, known as intraocular pressure, is often elevated in people with open-angle glaucoma. During your examination our optometrist will measure your intraocular pressure, perform a visual acuity test, and thoroughly examine the anatomical structures of your eyes, to diagnose glaucoma as early as possible. At all times, our caring office team keeps you informed and at ease, addressing any questions or concerns you may have throughout your course of care. If glaucoma is diagnosed, it is important to begin treatment without delay. In this way, we can help to manage the condition and to prevent it from progressing and further compromise your vision. Our office keeps pace with leading-edge treatment methods and will create a personalized treatment plan to meet your individual needs.
